Our Story
Founded in 2015 by Mariama Jaiteh, the Gambian-American Foundation was born from a vision to create lasting connections between Gambian communities and American resources. Mariama, who moved to the United States from The Gambia as a young adult, recognized the untapped potential in fostering strong relationships between these two nations.
What began as small-scale educational support initiatives quickly grew into a comprehensive organization addressing multiple areas of need across Gambian communities. With each successful project, our network of supporters and partners expanded, allowing us to increase our impact year after year.
Today, the Gambian-American Foundation stands as a testament to the power of cross-cultural collaboration, dedicated to creating sustainable solutions that empower communities and build bridges across continents.

Founder & Executive Director
Born and raised in The Gambia, Mariama moved to the United States to pursue higher education. After a successful career in international development, she founded the Gambian-American Foundation to create meaningful connections between her two home countries.
